The Community Venue
The Ritz is a large community venue, serving the people of West Cornwall. being conveniently sited just a few yards from the centre of Penzance is perfect for drawing a crowd.
The hall was constructed as an art deco cinema in 1936 and then turned into a Bingo Hall in 1965. Since 2009, "The Ritz" has transformed itself yet again, from the 1960's Bingo Hall into a sumptuous Venue for community projects.
The building radiates its 1930’s art deco style of linear symmetry in the generously large foyer, and main hall. The cinema-designed interior has given the hall phenomenal acoustics, with a tiered floor plan that allows excellent viewing of the stage from every angle.
The original viewing balcony remains with its red velvet seats overlooking the hall. It can hold up to 600 people, which makes it viable for ambitious large-scale events such as live music gigs, birthday and wedding parties.
There is also a partition arrangement to form a more intimate venue, the “Ritz Petite” by cordoning off the lower tier dance floor with elegant black drapes. Ritz Petite can hold 300 people in itself and has the bar and smaller stage incorporated within its design, this makes for a smaller personal enviroment for smaller groups and activities to achieve personal interaction with the audience.
As a community venue the Ritz has already hosted numerous live music events, with bands, Djs, choirs, it has also hosted poetry festivals and indoor markets. Its versatility means it can be transformed for almost any occasion. It is open for hire for schools, groups for private or public functions catering for any event.
